Hospital Dumpster Used to Exchange Drugs

By Jefferson Tyler, Multimedia Journalist

OTTUMWA, IA (KYOU) – One man is behind bars, for allegedly using a dumpster at Ottumwa Regional Hospital to distribute drugs.

Justin Hale, has been arrested for conspiracy to deliver more than 5 grams of methamphetamine. According to an Ottumwa Police complaint, Hale retrieved 5 grams of meth from a dumpster. He was later caught with the drugs when he admitted the drugs were for distribution. The police complaint also says he was supposed to receive part of the drugs for himself in exchange for picking up the drugs from the dumpster behind the hospital.

“It’s very typical when you speak of drugs. There’s also violence that usually goes hand in hand with that. So being in a care facility environment in a hospital setting. It’s not a good combination to have”, Lt. Chad Farrington.

According to court documents, Hale already has warrants out for him for two other drug related offenses. He is currently waiting trial for those charges. When we asked Ottumwa Regional Hospital to comment on this incident, they referred us to the Ottumwa Police Department for further details.
