Two off duty officers receive medal receive fire department’s greatest honor

OTTUMWA, IA (KYOU) – “Our appreciation for those extra times you step up when its that type of call. So its our thank you to these guys and how they represent what you do every day,” said a Wapello County Volunteer Firefighter.

An Ottumwa Police Officer and Wapello County Sheriff’s Deputy receiving some special recognition.
Wapello County Firefighters thanking Officer Levi Reitz and Deputy Don McMartin for helping out with a dangerous wreck that occurred back in June.

Four people were trapped inside their car during an accident on Eddyville Road and 165th Avenue outside Ottumwa.
Reitz and McMartin jumped into help, even though both officers were off duty.
The officers were presented with the fire department’s greatest honor, a challenge coin, for their help with the emergency situation.
