OTTUMWA, IA (KYOU) -The warm weather this weekend brought out a group of runners and walkers together to support a cause close to their hearts. They were walking to raise awareness of kidney disease in the Heartland. The Southeast Iowa Kidney walk is a part of the largest walk to fight Kidney disease. Around 26 million Americans are fighting kidney disease. There were many activities going on throughout the event. According to their website the walk has raised about 85 percent of their goal of 10 thousand dollars.
Mark Davis from the National Kidney Foundation said “If you live in Des Moines you have access to the hospitals, you have access to the clinics, transportation. Events like this in rural towns in Iowa, smaller towns in Iowa really does a lot locally to help provide resources to people living with kidney disease.”
