Mt. Sinai Church to host drive-thru for food and masks
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - On Monday, May 18th Inglesia Monte Sinai in Ottumwa will be giving out food and masks. Originally the church was just going to be making masks but quickly they realize there was a greater need.
“This issue was increasing, you know, in our community and watching the news, we find out that that people were running out of masks,” said Pastor Carlos Alba de Leon. "Then we realize that there is people a need for food and people losing their jobs, you know, and people being infected and because of that not going to work, you know, providing for the families.”
This is how Community Day really came together and before they knew it a face mask giveaway became a food drive as well. But Pastor Carlos admits, it would not have been possible without the help of many local partners.
“The first thing that we had to realize is that our resources wasn’t enough. So we needed help when we start contacting people and thank God to these organizations that gladly come on this plan,” he said. Those organizations include Jorge’s Organics in Fairfield, United Way of Wapello County, Hy-Vee, and Food Bank of Iowa.
The event will be held Monday at the church, 1105 2nd St E, Ottumwa.
