Ottumwa man facing additional charges

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - New! Ottumwa Police say a man who’s accused of threatening a woman with a handgun is now facing new charges.

After serving search warrants at the home of 34 year old Carlos Mendez, police say they found drugs, items used distribute drugs and over $18,000 in cash.

On Thursday, May 21st, officer arrested Mendez. He’s charged with possession with the intent to deliver, possession with the intent to deliver 5 grams of

methamphetamine and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.

Original story: Ottumwa police say they got a call around 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 14th about a disturbance in the south alley of the 400 block of East Main Street. Police say they were told a man was threatening a female with a handgun at this location.

When officers arrived they found the victim. Officers later identified the suspect as 34 year old Carlos Velasco Mendez of Ottumwa. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
