Beach Ottumwa testing site extended until May 29
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Wapello County officials announced today that the Beach Ottumwa TestIowa location has been extended to be in service until at least May 29.
The move comes after a hard look at the data of the past week of testing and capacity to continue testing in the area. The site will remain open on weekdays from 8 AM - 6 PM. However, the site will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday.
So far, 653 Iowans have been tested at Beach Ottumwa. With the site now extended into next week, a move to another location in the area could be in order, according to Wapello County Emergency Management Coordinator, Tim Richmond. He explained that now that Governor Kim Reynolds has given permission for pools to open up for lessons and lap-swimming, Wapello County is searching for a new space to conduct testing.
And after Kim Reynolds announced expanded requirements for coronavirus testing on Thursday, Wapello County officials say there’s still no need to worry about the state running out of tests.
“We have heard the concerns and frustrations of the community. Several of you have wanted to be tested but have not made it through the assessment to get approval to do so. So, that’s an exciting development that the governor’s office has heard our concerns and addressed those. The governor is looking at the level of supply from her seat. And I’m confident that if she says we can open it up to more, that she’s prepared to do that,” said Tim Richmond during a press conference.
