A semi-truck collided with train near Chillicothe, Iowa

CHILLICOTHE, Iowa (KYOU) - A semi-truck driver is in a Des Moines hospital after his truck collided with a train near Chillicothe, Iowa.

The train which was headed westbound collided with the semi at the crossing.

The semi-truck driver was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The BNSF spokesperson says no train crew were hurt.

He did say the crossing is equipped with gates, bells and flashers.

KYOU did ask if the equipment was working at the time of the crash. A company spokespersons says that is currently under investigation.

BNSF teams responded to the site to rerail 15 cars and remove the debris.

As of 11:00 a.m. the crews had removed most of the debris from one of its main tracks.

The collision is currently under investigation.
