Cases of coronavirus going up in Wapello County

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - The number of COVID-19 cases in Iowa and Wapello County are still going up.

According to the county currently has 738 positive cases. The state says the county has 20 more cases at 758.

The county recorded its first death since June 29th. An 81 year old was the latest person to pass away bringing the total number to 31.

Statewide the total number of death is at 808.

Clinical Director at Wapello County Public Health says the latest increase of cases here locally are most likely from July 4th.

She is asking citizens to practice safe techniques if they do go outside.

"What we've been seeing the last couple days, we had 21 cases that we have investigated the last two days is it is community-widespread. It is not just one area. We've got individuals working in all types of businesses all over this county. So nobody is safe if you continue to go out."
