OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Construction is moving right along in downtown Ottumwa, as the Green Street intersection is back open to traffic.

After being closed for months, this part of the Street Scape project is completely finished, according to Main Street Ottumwa executive director, Fred Zesiger.

“I just encourage people to come down and visit the shops. With everything that’s going on it’s been a struggle for all of us. But, we’re glad to see the street starting to open back up. And of course, the sidewalks are always open for customers to enjoy,” Zesiger said.

Soon, landscapers will come in to plant shade trees and bioswales, adding some color to the street’s new look. Project officials also say three local artists have been chosen to feature some of their artwork along the sidewalks.

In one week, at least half of the 200 block of Main Street will be open, bringing relief to struggling businesses.
