Polar Xpress open on Labor Day
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Jeff Hendred says he and his wife Sandra, both owners of a frozen treat shop called Polar Xpress started their business 5 years ago on valentine’s day and he says he’s happy to be open on Labor Day.
“This is our opportunity to give back to the community,” he says “Despite Covid and streetscape, business is still going strong and as a safety precaution for all, they have gone from a self-serving operation to serving the customers,” says Hendred.
“We’re used to being a place where people can come in there’s no waiting to get your product however customers have been very respectful very patient as we wait on one customer after the other cause they know this is what they want and it is worth the wait. Events are opening back up again that’s one of the fortes we have also as an addition to selling out of our shop on Main Street, we also do what’s called pop-ups so we get a chance to pop up at our event to sell our product.”
Hendred says he is thankful for the people of Iowa for making the business successful. “Because of people’s support we have become we have become the number one go-to place for frozen dessert in Iowa and it’s because of the patrons that have come here so we say thank you for that,” says Hendred.
