Police say they have charged a juvenile in connection with fire at Little League field
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -Update: Ottumwa Police say on Tuesday, September 8th they charged a 13-year-old female with reckless use of fire. The juvenile was arrested and released to her parents.
Original story: On Monday evening at 7:00 pm, police responded to a fire at the Ottumwa Little League field.
When they arrived, firefighters found that the press box was up in flames.
The crew was able to put flames out within the hour. No one was injured or was at the scene when officials arrived.
President of the Ottumwa Little League Sam Long said in a statement to KYOU, “Us at Ottumwa Little League are figuring out what the costs are going to be. A big thank you to the Ottumwa Fire Department for getting the fire out and limiting the damage to the facility. And, thank you to the police department and Officer DeRonde for opening an investigation into the source of the fire.”
Now, the Ottumwa Police Department says that there is an ongoing investigation as to who started this fire and have already begun speaking to witnesses. And, as for the field, the Ottumwa Little League is already looking to how they can rebuild the field as fast as possible.
