Ottumwa Food Bank ramps up efforts during the pandemic
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -
COVID-19 has up-ended the lives of many. But, the local food bank right here in Ottumwa is doing what they can to make life easier on those who are vulnerable to the virus.
The Food Bank of Iowa received a grant earlier this year that aims to help elderly people during this time. The program gives food boxes to those who are bound to their homes and are unable to provide for themselves during this time.
And while this has been a program for many years, it has been increased due to the demand now serving over 230 people in this area and now includes two boxes of food per month.
To qualify for the box of food you must live in Wapello Coutny and is designed for individuals 60 years old and over. The boxes are available for pick-up at the Food Bank location right here in Ottumwa.
