HIGHLIGHTS: Albia improves to 3-4 after a 34-26 victory against Saydel
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - It was a big weekend for Iowa High School football, as the 2020 regular season came to a close.
This year’s playoff bracket will be looking a little different because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This season, each team from every class receives a ticket to the postseason. It doesn’t matter what your record is; this year, you have a spot in the playoffs.
For the Albia Blue Demons, they came into the week with a 2-4 record, looking to bring themselves to a tie in the Class 2A standings with the Saydel Eagles. They would do just that, taking home the win 34-26. The win also help them next week, when the Class 2A playoff bracket is released.
Albia was powered by an offense that was clicking. Led by senior quarterback, Blake Chance, who threw for multiple scores in the game, the Blue Demons were able to ride out a 28-18 halftime to lead. Senior wideout, Nate Wynn, and sophomore fullback, CJ Flattery, both got into the endzone as well.
Other scores from around southeast Iowa:
Pekin defeats Van Buren, 42-21.
Davis County falls to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, 36-12.
Ottumwa loses to Ames, 42-21.
Fort Madison wallops Fairfield, 55-12.
The IHSAA playoff brackets will be released sometime next week.
