KIRKSVILLE, Mo (KYOU) - The city of Kirksville has released details for the visitation and funeral for the police chief who passed away unexpectedly.

The visitation and funeral service for Chief Steve Farnsworth is open to the public.

The visitation will be held at the Kirksville Primary School, 1815 E. Hamilton St., Kirksville, Missouri on Friday, October 16, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The funeral service will be held at Spainhower Field, 1300 S. Cottage Grove Ave., Kirksville, Missouri on Saturday, October 17 at 10:00 am.

The public should expect brief traffic delays if traveling in and around the area of Kirksville on Saturday, October 17, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Please practice social distancing and use a mask as needed.

In a message on its Facebook page, it says the City of #Kirksville is shocked and saddened at the passing of Chief of Police Steve Farnsworth.

Steve was a champion of community policing and will be sorely missed by the community he served. We ask that residents join us in keeping Steve’s family – and especially his sons – in their thoughts.

Deputy Chief of Police Justin Jones will serve as interim Chief of Police.

We also ask for residents' support of the City’s Police Department during this time as they continue to provide policing excellence in partnership with the community.
