OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Expect a really windy day today, with gusts over 40 mph pretty common. The most likely time for these high wind speeds will be this afternoon. The winds combined with low moisture content in the air will make outdoor burning hazardous today, as fires could quickly spread and get out of control. Delay those activities to a less windy day, especially in the south toward Kirksville where the fire danger is the highest.

Temperatures tumble to wrap up the weekend, when winds shift to the northwest. Some showers are possible on Sunday as well, and I can’t totally rule out a snowflake or two mixing into the rain in our far northern counties. No accumulation of snow is expected. Highs for Sunday and Monday will be in the 40s.

Somewhat warmer weather moves in toward midweek, before another front drives our temperatures toward cooler readings by the start of next weekend.
