OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Friday, students across the Ottumwa district planted trees as part of a Trees Forever initiative. The non-profit works with Alliant Energy to provide funds for the school district. It’s called the “Branching Out” program, which provides grants directly to a community to buy young trees that can replace dead trees or fill out an empty space.

Students at James Elementary School, Liberty, Douma, and Ottumwa High School planted the 25 trees across the districts with help from district maintenance workers.
