Brand new YMCA coming to Mahaska County
OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KYOU) -
Oskaloosa is soon to be home to a brand new YMCA. The project - which is expected to be finished late next year - is part of a 33 million dollar expansion for families in Mahaska County. CEO for the local YMCA Matt Larson says there is lots to come with this new expansion.
He said: “We are able to bring in all of our licensed childcare, which is currently at two other off-site locations. But, also being able to expand the amenities that we are able to offer to the Mahaska County area.”
The new center is expected to look like these pictures here offering 24-hour access to the fitness center, a spin room, daycare, therapy pool, and a splash pad for kids. But, at a cost. Fundraising is still underway to bring this new project to life.
Larson added: “We are still fundraising the capital campaign is ongoing, and now is a great time to do that. We have online options to make it very easy for families and individuals to donate.”
But not all donors are adults. Nine-year-old Jackson Lahner heard the news the YMCA was seeking donations and broke out his piggy bank to donate 25 dollars to his home away from home.
Lahner told KYOU, “I wanted to help out because my family, we do lots of things here. like, I have swim team tonight. My mom likes to work out, my dad works out. We do a lot more things here.”
The current YMCA remains open as the community awaits their brand new building.
