FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KYOU) Fairfield Economic Development Association and the Greater Fairfield Area Habitat for Humanity recently finalized the sale and purchase of a residential lot for the construction of future homes.

GFAHFH purchased the lot for $15,000 on North 12th Street, adjacent to other property it previously acquired. This lot is part of a seven-lot subdivision FEDA had created in 2015. Three residential lots still remain available for purchase.

“On behalf of the entire board of directors of the Greater Fairfield Area Habitat for Humanity, we are thrilled to secure future build sites for our organization,” said, Amber Stump McDowell, President of the GFAHFH. “Affordable housing is a big issue in Fairfield and Jefferson County and we are working hard to address that issue one house at a time. A big thank you to FEDA for its unwavering support! With this purchase, we have 5 future build sites on 12th Street.”

A 2014 Housing Needs Assessment led by the City of Fairfield and FEDA identified a shortage of quality, affordable housing in the area. Providing leadership on housing shortage solutions is one of FEDA’s top strategic priorities.

“With many local employers growing and our mutual goal to attract and retain more working families, FEDA is pleased to partner with our local Habitat for Humanity, to create more affordable housing,” said Joshua Laraby, FEDA’s Executive Director.
