OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KYOU) -

It’s a holiday season unlike any other and now small businesses are counting on their customers more than ever. Oskaloosa Main Street Director Jessica Reuter says they are making big moves to encourage people to shop local as the team kicks off their holiday open house this weekend.

Reuter says: “You know now it’s the fourth quarter and these months of holiday shopping are so important to retailers and small businesses in a normal year and this year we just need to support them and keep our shopping dollars in the local economy.”

Stores such as Lu Roo & Co Boutique and the Book Vault are just two of the many stores opening their doors this weekend for the holiday shopping event to kick of the season. Rueter says this next month is vital for these businesses, “if you want these stores to be here, if you want them to be apart of the future your dollars make that decision.”
