CHARITON, Iowa (KYOU) - Two teenagers died following an accident on Sunday in Chariton.

The Iowa State Patrol says 55-year-old Shawn Blanchard of Des Moines was traveling west on Highway 34 approaching South 1st street in Chariton just after 5 p.m. Sunday evening.

18-year-old Blake Skinner of Corydon, Iowa was traveling east on Highway 34 and trying to turn north on the S. 1st Street and turned into the path of Blanchard according to the state patrol.

The collision caused Skinner’s vehicle to roll ejecting him and two of his passengers. Police say 15-year-old Kaitlynn Spicer of Des Moines and 16-year-old Chase Lavely of Chariton, Iowa both died at the scene.

Skinner and Angel Blanchard were both flown to a Des Moines hospital for treatment. Shawn Blanchard was taken to a local hospital.
