OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -A local business owner here in Ottumwa got an unexpected hit by the global pandemic. But she didn’t let that discourage her. Instead, it inspired her.

Lisa Morgan who is the owner of The Sassy Sunflower on Northgate Street shares how the business began.

“The Sassy Sunflower is actually a product of Covid believe it or not. This was a steakhouse that my husband and I opened in November of 2019 and unfortunately, in March of 2020 Covid shut us down.”

Morgan says that closure was a letdown.

“It was kind of a heartbreak to shut down after 4 and a half months but we just made lemonade out of lemons.”

The Sassy Sunflower then became a reality.

“I pitched the idea of owning a boutique because I thought that looked kind of fun and after having eight businesses I thought I can do this now.” Lisa plans to expand her business with a coffee and fresh flower section and says she is officially open to the public on Black Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
