OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -Hy-Vee’s one million pounds of food donations to food banks are apart of its goodwill initiative to focus on food security during the pandemic.

Jeremy Johnson who is Ottumwa’s District Manager says the company felt it is their time to help out.

“This one, in particular, is the first one this year for this type of situation, the extra need for everyone during the pandemic. It’s our opportunity to step up and help out.”

Johnson says there’s a great variety in selection.

“We’ve got some frozen meat items, we’ve got cereal, some stock items, some canned items as well. It’s a lot of good variety for folks.”

He adds people are now able to pick up food from 17 pantries across the eight-state region.
