OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KYOU) -A building that has been in Oskaloosa for over 115 years is about to get a facelift.

On the corner of A Avenue and Market Street sits the old U.S. Post Office building that’s been vacant for over 20 years. And, after a year of planning, Oskaloosa Public Works Director Shawn Christ shared with KYOU that the building will soon be a restaurant.

The new developer, who is local to Cedar Rapids, has big plans. While the plans are still under wraps, Christ says the new owner plans to turn it into a casual dining establishment with a brew pub.

He said: “It is a historic building. it was built in 1902. And, there was a 1925 rear addition and it was actually listed on the national register of historic places last year in 2020. It’s been vacant for about 20 years.”

While construction is already underway, the project is estimated to be at least a year out.
