The Fairfield Police Department has an opening for a new position
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -After a recent resignation of an officer the Fairfield police department is looking to fill that open position.
Unlike most application processes that just require a resume Fairfield Chief of Police, David Thomas says, this position will require a physical test starting with a mile and a half run.
“There’s also push-ups and sit-ups, they are on the Iowa law enforcement academy website. You can get on there and look at a chart. On there it has the age groups, every ten years you get a little bit more time thank goodness. It’s so many you can do in an hour and it’s different for male and female.”
Thomas says once that is complete he says that the next steps include four standardized tests followed by a personality and mental health test along with a background check.
“Lastly, after you get through all that we finish up with a polygraph exam, that everything you told us in your background is truthful and after you get through all that we can hire you at the police department.”
He says this process could possibly take about a year between all the tests and months of training so if this sounds like a position you’d be interested in applying for the application can be found on the website Cityoffairfieldiowa.com.
