OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - With temperatures dropping lower and lower it’s important to take preventative measures to assure your vehicle’s safety before another winter storm.

Things like having plenty of fuel, and checking your tire pressure, and having your battery checked.

The owner of Bills’ Muffler Shop, Eric Molesworth advises you not to leave anything in your car overnight that could potentially pull power from your car’s battery.

“Batteries are a big issue, try to unplug cell phone chargers, any of that stuff overnight that’s going to cause a draw. I would unplug any or all accessories that you could that’s going to pull any kind of voltage from the vehicle overnight.”

Molesworth also advises keeping extra blankets in your vehicle in case you are stuck and are waiting for help to arrive.
