OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Now that the weather has warmed up, KYOU talked with Ottumwa’s fire department to check in on the emergencies during these last few cold weeks.

Deputy Chief Cory Benge says the Fire Department saw two weather related fires. One - from a propane heater too close to flammables. The other at a hotel from an overloaded circuit because of space heaters.

Benge says both these fires were preventable.

The Fire Department also responded to several EMS calls during the cold weather for falling on ice and medical emergencies while shoveling snow.
