OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - An Ottumwa man is facing charges Tuesday night, after police say a former felon carried a handgun into Pickwick Early Childhood Center.

On Wednesday, February 24, the Ottumwa Police Department was notified of a man who had been seen carrying a holstered handgun at Pickwick Early Childhood Center in Ottumwa. When school officials asked the man about the gun, he claimed to be a member of law enforcement. He did not make any threats toward anyone with the firearm.

On Tuesday, March 2 at 10 AM, the Ottumwa Police Department arrested 40-year-old, Jason Lee Haut, of Ottumwa. Haut had been previously convicted of 3rd degree burglary.

As a result of Tuesday’s arrest, Haut is now facing the following charges:

  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Carrying Weapons on School Grounds
  • Impersonating a Public Official
  • Carrying Weapons, an Aggravated Misdeamor

Following a search of Haut’s home on Chester Ave, an additional firearm was seized.
