KIRKSVILLE, Missouri (KYOU) - Despite the gloomy weather today residents of Adair County gathered at the crossing in Kirksville for booster shot day to receive their second dose of the Moderna vaccine.

Katie Richmond, who was one of many to receive her second dose, says she was eager to get it due to so many loved ones around her catching the virus.

“My brother got it this past Christmas and several of my friends have just like throughout this past year.”

There was a large group of community volunteers ranging from the fire department, military members, and the health department.

One registered nurse who worked from 9 AM to 6 PM says all the help and kind words from the community have made the process much smoother.

For all those that turned out today for the vaccine, your compliments, and reassurance of what we’re doing and your appreciation is heartfelt and we appreciate that.

Adair County Health Administrator Jim LeBaron says about 1,700 shots were administered last month for those within the first two-tiers of phase 1B and he was pleased with the day’s turnout.

“I’m really really happy, we got rain out there it’s cold but people here think it’s important to get their shot, and the more people we get vaccinated, the better off I think we all are.”

LeBaron looks forward to completing the next group for the month of April as well.
