Kirksville Police investigating homicide
KIRSKVILLE, Missouri (KYOU) - A 17-year-old male is in custody following a call to a Kirksville, Missouri home on Thursday evening.
Police say officers responded to a home in the 800 block of South Baltimore in reference to a report of a male who had been assaulted with a knife.
Police and emergency personnel arrived and began treating the victim, a 49-year-old male from Kirksville.
The victim was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center but did not survive his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, police obtained a description of a 17-year-old male suspect, a male witness, and a vehicle that left the scene prior to officer’s arrival.
Officers later located the male witness and gathered further information.
At approximately 9:39 p.m. on Thursday evening, an officer located the suspect vehicle parked near the intersection of Wilson and Orchard Streets. Officers began searching the area for the male suspect and located him in the 700 block of West Dodson. The suspect ran away but was apprehended a short distance away.
The suspect is identified at this time only as a 17-year-old, male, from LaPlata, Missouri. This male is being held at the Adair County jail pending the filing of formal charges related to the homicide.
