A big day for Iowa and it’s distributors as the first day that the Covid-19 vaccine is available for all Iowans 16 and older.

KYOU spoke with Hyvee pharmacies who shared the first day was running smoothly.

And today, residents of Oskaloosa shared their plans on whether or not they will get the vaccine now that it’s available.

Many told us off camera that they do not feel comfortable getting the vaccine give the short turn around time and lack of data.

But, others who did receive the vaccine were happy to share their experience with one resident named Janet sharing: “I think it’s safe. I didn’t get sick. People say it hurt but it didn’t hurt.”

Another resident who shared she had received said the process was easy telling KYOU, “Both vaccines it felt fine. I had no reactions either time. I’m so glad I did it.”

Trey Roland, of Oskaloosa, shared his thoughts on how he weighed out the pros and cons of getting the vaccine saying: “If you’re worried about side effects they seem to be mild fever or headache. “If you weigh it against any of those side effects wouldn’t they be a lot more mild than getting the virus itself.”

Currently, vaccines are available for all Iowans 16 and older and registrations can be made to secure your spot in line at any major distributors website such as Hyvee, Walgreens, and Mahaska Drug.
