You can properly dispose your expired and unused medication at Summit Pharmacy in Fairfield
FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KYOU) - Summit Pharmacy and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department are teaming up for the biannual Take Back program which is designed to take any unused or expired medication and safely dispose of it.
Summit Pharmacy owner Dr. Bryan Vander Linden says this process is not only confidential but it’s easy as well.
“It’s completely confidential. You come and bring in whatever medications that you have to dispose of and then they can be put into the box and then those boxes are sealed and then they’re sent off to be disposed of. I believe they’re incinerated.”
Dr. Vander Linden stresses the importance of properly disposing of old medication saying although you might have taken the medication before it becomes dangerous once it hits the expiration date.
“Also it helps to prevent people from getting into medication that doesn’t belong to them so it helps keep our community safe that way.”
If you’re in the surrounding area, you can stop by summit pharmacy in Fairfield Saturday, April 24th from 10 am to 2 pm.
