One Iowan woman shares her thoughts about the verdict in the Chauvin trial
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - As reaction pours in from the guilty verdicts in the Derek Chauvin trial, KYOU spoke with Pastor Diane Koger about Tuesday’s outcome. She says she feels like her life finally matters.
“I’m very happy that we now, as black people, our lives matter. The choices that we make, to choose to live in America no matter where we are that we have those rights. That our rights now, will matter. The way we’re are being treated, it will be taken in a position where people understand that right is right and wrong is wrong.”
Chauvin was found guilty on all charges in connection with the death of George Floyd. He is set to be sentenced in 8 weeks and faces up to 75 years in prison.
