FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KYOU) - Goodwill of the Heartland has joined Google and Coursera to offer five-course online classes that you set at your own pace to learn skills that top employers are now hiring for.

Retail manager Mary Barton says the most recent course made available is I.T. support.

“People who are finishing this credentially recognized course, they’re being offered $18-$24 an hour when they go into the employment force.”

Additionally to that other courses offered are Human Services, Computer Basics, Hospitality, Custodial Technician and more.

All courses are offered online and free of charge and scholarships are also being offered as well.

Barton says she thinks this program is needed to help those who struggle financially

“I think it has a huge impact on communities as a whole, not just individuals. people need to get out there and work and be able to provide for their families and themselves.”

Once you sign up Goodwill staff will help with navigating courses, updating and create your resume, and connecting you with businesses looking to hire.
