OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - A group dedicated to promoting the Ottumwa area - Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress - released their first annual report Friday.

2020 was the organization’s first full year since the Ottumwa Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Corporation merged.

The report celebrates accomplishments despite COVID-19, such as Ottumwa being named the SBA Iowa Small Business Community of the Year, and relaunching the Ottumwa duck race.

But Sharon Stroh, Vice President of Industrial Development & Organizational Communication for GOPIP, says she’s proudest that they managed to be so productive during a year of social distancing.

Especially since so much of GOPIP’s work is about bringing people to one place.

“You still have to plan for ways to be interactive with our customers. In in our case, our customers aren’t just the people who invest in us, but the folks who have built networks through us.”

Moving forward, GOPIP plans to increase aid to small businesses, and to promote events around the city
