The Pet Adopt-a-Thon event returns this year after last year’s cancellation
OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KYOU) - The Pet Adopt-a-Thon event hosted by The Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter is back in full swing after being canceled last year due to the pandemic.
Terry Gott, who is the Executive Director of the Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa, says last year’s cancellations caused a financial setback.
“It really cut back on our fundraisers and we lost a lot of money we could’ve earned.”
He says donations from the community have helped the shelter stay afloat, and adds that he looks forward to this weekend’s event because there’s more to do than to just see their furry friends. You can join a silent auction, enjoy the bake sale, and bring your own pet for microchipping.
“So if you have a pet that you want to be microchipped and it’s not microchipped yet, just bring it on up and we’ll microchip it for $15. We can also register the chip with all your information on it so if your pet ever gets lost and someone scans the chip they’ll know who to get a hold of and you can retrieve your animal.”
This event takes place at the Penn Central Mall in Oskaloosa on Saturday, May the 1st from 10 am to 3 pm.
