Booming Business: Local business owner reflects on one-year in business amid pandemic
PELLA, Iowa (KYOU) -
A couple months shy of her one year anniversary, Amber Lyle took a leap of faith and doesn’t regret it one bit. “I didn’t really ever hesitate to be honest with you,” she says.
Lyle opened up her first business last summer after falling in love with the idea of having a niche food option in Pella, Iowa known as Big Acai Bowl.
And now, this is only the beginning. “I feel empowered. I mean this has been an absolute trip. And, it’s awesome,” Lyle added of the journey thus far. She also says, she’s the woman behind every aspect of her business. ”I do everything from the scooping and the bowl preps to the smoothies and all the backend stuff. I do all the ordering. I turn in payroll. It was terrifying.”
As for why her business as been such a hit during times when indoor dining has been such a struggle she says people are in and out. “We are primarily a to-go location. Nobody is in this store for longer than five minutes.”
With online ordering options and a quick pick up process, Lyle says there isn’t much interaction with people in the building, that has helped with her success during a time where many still fall short.
But, an upside to choosing to open her business in Pella is the community support that comes along with it. Lyle says shopping local is a big part of the community saying the “shop local” culture runs true.
