PACKWOOD, Iowa (KYOU) - The superintendent of Pekin Community School District spoke out Monday about misinformation he says is spreading in the community.

On Monday, Pekin superintendent Dave Harper, issued a statement via Facebook addressing rumors that 7th and 8th graders would be taking classes with 11th and 12th graders. Harper said that rumor is completely false. Middle school and high school students will still be sharing the same hallways; however that has been the case for some time.

Harper also saying that with the current model, Pekin High School teachers will also be teaching some middle school classes as well. The reason for that being that the district isn’t in the financial position to hire more teachers.

“I truly feel that this seven through 12 model that we’ve been already in, is the best for students right now. Academically, and our financial stability, this is a good thing for kids,” said Harper.

For any questions regarding the district’s future plans, Harper encourages parents to reach out to him at (641) 224-2524.
