OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - KYOU 15′s James Barrickman has reached the end of his time here in Ottumwa and is now taking his talents to a new news station in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The news team wanted to take the time out to wish him luck on his new adventure. News Director, Anne Hughes, says she was impressed by his work ethic upon their first meeting.

“When I met James over a year ago, I was already impressed by his work ethic, his wonderful attitude. Watching him grow as an anchor, as a producer, as a reporter, as a newsroom leader has been a great blessing for KYOU, but for me as his News Director, it’s seeing him willing to learn and always wanting to learn and willing to accept mistakes and learn from them. He’s been an outstanding employee so we are very sad to see him go but we’re really excited for him.”

Brad Johnson, who is our Sales Marketer, describes him as friendly.

“The first word I would describe you as is friendly because you’re always very friendly, you’ve always been super kind to everyone and I think that’s awesome. fun, you seem like a fun guy. not like a mushroom but like a fun guy.”

Chief Engineer, Doug Vanderhoek, says the time has flown by.

“Hey James, it’s been really nice working with you for the last two years. I can’t believe it’s gone so fast. It doesn’t seem like you started that long ago but it’s been two years. I wish you all the best in the future and good luck.”

Fellow News Reporter, Shelby Slaughter, wishes him the best of luck.

“I just want to wish you the absolute best luck possible in Las Vegas. I don’t think Vegas could have hired a more talented go-getter such as yourself. You have been such a resource and a role model for me. it’s going to be really sad to watch you leave a thousand miles away. So just know your biggest fan in Iowa is always rooting for you.”

Eric Monaghan, who is also a News Reporter on the team, says he’s been nothing but kind.

“You know James has been here longer than any of the rest of our reporters and ever since I’ve gotten here he’s been nothing but kind, helpful, and always good to answer any question I have. I’m going to miss him a lot and I think the station is going to miss him a lot. I’m excited to see where he goes in the future. Best of luck to you James, I’ll miss you, buddy.”

Lastly News Reporter, Jatyra Marsh, says that James is someone you can always depend on.

“James Barrickman is just an all-around stand-up guy. You can always depend on him if you’re ever in a bind. Any time you need him he’s there. He’s friendly, he’s funny, he’s outgoing and Vegas will be lucky to have him. I’m going to miss you James, good luck.”
