FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KYOU) - First responders received a call about a woman who went missing after entering Cedar Creek on Kale Boulevard.

A friend called for help after growing worried their friend had disappeared in the water Wednesday night.

EMT Jason Crandall who was there on the scene says within 45 minutes of searching the woman was located.

“We started searching both sides of the river and after about 45 minutes of searching the missing person was found in the water, she was enjoying the weather and swimming a little bit.”

Crandall says although the water wasn’t very deep, it wasn’t ideal to swim in.

“The water wasn’t very deep but it was moving at a very reasonable pace. When you get into moving water it can sweep you downstream and pin you underneath debris like down trees and shrubs and stuff like that.”

He says this situation caused great concern but ended positively.

“We were all concerned and afraid it was going to turn out more... dire, but it turned out the best possible way and we found her and everything worked out well.”

He adds you shouldn’t go swimming at night, but if you do, don’t swim alone.
