Community holds onto hope as the search for Xavior Harrelson continues
MONTEZUMA, Iowa (KYOU) -
It’s been two weeks since Xavior Harrelson was last seen at the Spruce Village Trailer Park. Now, it’s filled with orange ribbons and missing person signs. Neighbors in the spruce village trailer park say the atmosphere is different and kids don’t play outside as much since Xavior went missing.
“Parents are worried, kids are worried. We haven’t found him. We can’t live our normal lives as much as we used to,” Spruce Village resident Amanda Carman shared. Hundreds have been searching for the boy, but have come up with nothing. Community members say more searching should be done.
Mitch Mortvedt with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations says he feels the surrounding areas including Diamond Lake have all been well covered. “We feel that we covered it well. Again, not saying that we couldn’t miss something whether it’s on water or on ground. But, between the actual lake itself and the surrounding area. We feel that it was very thoroughly searched.”
But, they are still searching for new leads. Now a Facebook group is hoping to help in that effort. The group called Finding Xavior Harrelson with nearly 8,000 followers. The group’s mission is to get Xavior’s face and name out in the public so he can be found!
Governor Kim Reynolds also commenting on the disappearance on Thursday wishing for a safe return of the 11-year-old. “You know they are going to continue to do what they can to get to the bottom of this. Again, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” she said while on a visit in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
While many tirelessly search, neighbors say Xavior’s mother has since moved from her home. Authorities can’t comment on her whereabouts, did say she is currently still cooperating with the investigation.
