The city of Eldon will hold a mural dedication event
ELDON, Iowa (KYOU) - The city of Eldon will be showing recognition to several historical sites in the area with just one mural.
Patti Durflinger, who is one of the members of the Mural Committee along with Donna Jeffrey and Brian Keasling, says the idea of the mural started three years ago reading the newspaper.
“Well, I read an article in one of the papers about a group of University of Iowa students going around painting murals this was about three years ago.”
Durflinger says that’s when she saw one of the students by the name of Katlynne Underhill, who is from the Eldon area doing the murals, and she had to reach out.
“I’m like we need to reach out to her because that would be an awesome thing if she did something for our town.”
She says $9,000 in donations were raised to create the mural, and when you look at it you’ll see a dedication to the American Gothic House, Carnegie Library, the Opera House, and the Rock Island Railroad.
Saturday’s dedication is expected to be an all-day event beginning at 9 am and will start off with the mural dedication, followed by a big breakfast, a parade, and more.
Durfligner says she hopes this is something anyone and everyone can enjoy.
