Wapello County Fair kicks off four days full of events
ELDON, Iowa (KYOU) - It’s summer in Iowa, which means local county fairs start to pop up for the next few months. And things start off right here in Wapello County, where the Wapello County Fair is beginning to hold events.
Wednesday night held harness racing and the Queen and Little Miss contest, but those are the tip of the iceberg compared to the following four days.
Thursday night, the vendors and carnival will open up, and the livestock shows will begin. There’s also a collection of items being judged, including quilts, crafts, and agriculture.
Last year’s fair was canceled due to the pandemic. Kevin Orman, the president of the Wapello County Fair Board, says they’re basically doing twice as much to make up for missing last year. “After last year, everybody’s ready to come out and do some stuff. We’ve had good turnout for the races so far, so we expect to have a good turnout.” He says he’s expecting Friday night’s concert with Chris Janson to bring in the biggest crowds. That kicks off at 6:00pm on Friday.
Staff were calling Wednesday night the calm before the storm, as tomorrow’s full of events.
