Ottumwa man facing attempted murder charge
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -Wapello County deputies made an arrest after investigating a call to a home about an armed intruder.
According to the sheriff’s office release, on Thursday, June 17th around 11:00 P.M., the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Lake Road in Ottumwa.
Deputies were told the homeowners called 911 and said an intruder had just entered their home and fired a shotgun at one of them.
The homeowners explained that they had never seen the shooter before.
Deputies and Investigators arrived and began to collect evidence inside of the residence and photographed an interior wall that had sustained damage from an apparent shotgun blast.
On Friday, June 18th around 1:37 P.M., Deputies located 38-year-old Jeffery Huffman on 30th Street in Ottumwa.
Deputies transported him to the Wapello County Jail and he was interviewed by Investigators. As a result of the interview, Huffman admitted to entering the residence with a loaded shotgun.
Huffman was ultimately arrested and booked into the Wapello County Jail on the following charges: Attempted Murder; Burglary in the 1st Degree; Going Armed with Intent; and Possession of Methamphetamine.
Additional charges are pending. Huffman is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
