Storm leaves behind damage in Blakesburg
BLAKESBURG, Iowa (KYOU) - Around 11:30 Friday night the town of Blakesburg was hit hard with storms and it left behind a lot of damage.
Jerry Parker with the Wapello County Board of Supervisors says most of the damage can be seen on the main street.
“Well if you look at the main street of town until almost the city limits, that seems to be the most damage. We’re very fortunate that there were only 3 homes that received structural damage. All the rest seem to be trees.”
Harold Johnson says he and his wife left town earlier that Friday for the weekend and were surprised when they came back.
We arrived home on Sunday to this grief in the yard and on the house, but it could’ve been worse.”
He says they had to cut branches just to get in through the back door and says there is no damage on the inside of the home.
“It looks as though the tree was twisted and it split that Bradford pair in half. One half is leaning towards the house and the other is hanging towards the garage but there is no penetration.”
Jerry Parker says work will be done all week to get rid of the debris and asks residents to get as much as possible to the curb so the pickup process can run by quickly.
