ELDON, Iowa (KYOU) - “I mean it was overwhelming. It didn’t come up from the creek necessarily but it came down the hillside and there was just no stopping it.”, says Rick Hindsley, a homeowner whose home was hit by the flood.

He says early Friday morning the water in his home was up to his knees. His immediate thought was to try and save as many items as possible, but he soon realized it was too late.

“We just spent eight months, me, the wife, and a friend, remodeling the entire downstairs and in half an hour it was all gone.” Amanda Clar, who is another homeowner that was affected, says her day started by hearing the sound of rushing water at 6 AM.

“The outside wall of our basement had collapsed outside of children’s bedroom and when the wall collapsed it took the waterline with it, including our shut off valve.”

So we had to wait until we could get the city down to shut off the main valve.

The basement was completely flooded with water, including covering our furnace.

The Wapello County Emergency Management posted to their Facebook page that they are offering free cleanup kits.

If you are in need, you can stop by the Eldon City Hall to pick one up.
