Repairs have been made to Grimes Avenue in Fairfield
FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KYOU) - Grimes Avenue in Fairfield between 28th and 32nd Street is now repaired after a blow-up in the pavement.
Fairfield Public Works Superintendent, Darrel Bisgard, says this is a common occurrence.
“This is the fourth time it happened this year.”
He says it’s expected after heavy rain and high heat.
“What usually happens is water gets in cracks and it forms gas down there and when it heats up it just blows up. It can blow up as high as two feet before.”
This one specifically he says only went as high as six inches.
The repairs started this morning and although the roadblock is still there, Bisgard says it should be accessible Friday.
“They started this morning to take the whole thing out. We decided to close the road off because it was too dangerous. So, we just closed the road off and poured it back with some M4. So it’ll be opened up tomorrow afternoon.”
He says if you see this happening in your neighborhood be sure to contact City Hall.
