OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -The Paralympics are underway in Tokyo, Japan. Among the athletes is a Fairfield, Iowa archer.

Matt Stutzman is also known as the “armless archer.”

KYOU caught up with him on Wednesday.

“I also went to trials and did amazingly well and earned ar right to represent the United States at the Tokyo games which that’s where I am right now.”

Stutzman is waiting for his first competition which is on Friday.

He says he’s resting up and recovering from jetlag.

When asked how he stays focused he says he likes to focus on one arrow at a time.

“My game plan is just to do me. Not worry about other people, not worry about what their scores are just focus on one arrow at a time and if I can just do that game plan I feel like I have a good shot at making the podium.”

He told KYOU he’s featured in a new Netflix documentary called “The Rising Phoenix” which is about the Paralympic games impacting a global understanding of disability, diversity and excellence.
