OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -The 19th Annual Tri-State Special Kids’ Rodeo will be held on Saturday, September 4, at 10 a.m. at the Fort Madison Rodeo Arena. The rodeo will be held rain or shine.

Registration starts at 8:30.

The rodeo is for any child or adult who has a mental and/or physical disability. It is handicapped-accessible.

Events: The contestants will be able to participate in supervised/assisted horseback riding, goat tying, ride in a wagon pulled by draft horses, line dancing, and a small petting zoo. There are also the simulated events of bull riding, bronc riding, roping, and barrel racing. All of the participants, their families, and volunteers are served a free picnic lunch.

All contestants are winners and receive a t-shirt and awards.

In 2019 we had 258 participants, so we are in great need of mentors to help us take participants to each event.

We request mentors be in the 7th grade or older, as many of our participants are adults. Mentors are requested to arrive by 9:30, and there will be a short meeting to explain their job/duties.

This is a totally free event, and the public is invited to attend to watch and support the contestants.
