ImpactLife in need of blood donations due to shortage
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Blood donors are needed right now for ImpactLife due to a lack of donations according to Kirby Winn Public Relations Manager for ImpactLife.
According to Winn, they are currently at a two-day supply of blood. “Right now, we’ve been working through a period of reduced donations.”
The reason for the reduced donations says Winn is due to covid; fewer people have been coming out to blood drives, and some drives have been canceled. The drives that can take place are the ones ImpactLife depends on. “That’s our challenge right now is finding enough donors at the mobile blood drives that are still happening, as well as coming into our donation center.”
Even with the fewer donations, the hospitals that are serviced by ImpactLife are still able to get the transfusions they need, only they are limited on the supply. Winn says the distribution centers cannot respond to a spike in blood use at the hospitals in the ways they have in the past. “We are not as flexible right now with our blood inventory as we ordinarily would be.”
ImpactLife needs donors, so their donations rates improve.
There is a blood drive happening at Evans Middle School here in Ottumwa. The event will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
