Man charged in Ottumwa murder waives court appearance

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - A preliminary hearing that was scheduled for Monday, November 22nd at 10 am for Douglas Spurgeon has been waived.

Spurgeon is the man charged with the murder of Gerald Sapp.

He has also been given a court-appointed attorney to represent him.

There is no update on any future court appearances as of Monday morning.

Sapp was found on Thursday, November 11th with multiple stab wounds.

Police arrested Spurgeon and charged him with Murder 1st degree.

Court documents show his bond is set at $1 million.
